HUNTER VALLEY

Ninety minutes to the north of Sydney lies the Hunter Valley, New South Wales oldest wine growing region, specializing in the Semillon grape. There are more than 150 wineries in the region, as well as fine dining, cooking schools, art galleries, health spas and golf. In addition to the Semillon grape, the Hunter Valley also produces shiraz, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and verdelho. The first vines were planted in the Hunter Valley in the 1820s. Many wineries offer cellar door tastings and vineyard tours.
