Cicada Lodge

Cicada Lodge

Cicada Lodge is designed for the sophisticated traveller looking for an authentic Indigenous and natural Australian “experience-of-a-lifetime,” in the heart of Northern Australia’s Timeless North. A sanctuary of elegant comfort, just 18 miles from the historic township of Katherine, the Lodge provides a level of excellence in accommodation, service and dining.

Nestled in the natural bush high above the ancient waterways of the Katherine River system, Cicada Lodge is the latest tourism venture of the Jawoyn people and the ideal base from which to explore this remote and gorgeous region. The Lodge is located inside Nitmiluk National Park, home to the iconic Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge. This deep gorge, carved through ancient sandstone by the Katherine River, draws thousands of visitors to the Park each year. This diverse and spectacular landscape is also a cultural landscape, where the Jawoyn people continue to live and work while sharing their culture with visitors to their country. Nitmiluk is the Jawoyn name for Katherine Gorge. It is pronounced Nit-me-look, and literalty means Cicada Place. You are invited to experience the ancient lands of this great region with Cicada Lodge on your vacation in the heart of Australia’s Northern Territory.

Cicada Lodge is core to the future of the Jawoyn people. Training programs and employment of the local people across all aspects of the operation are integral to that future. Eco-accredited Indigenous guides run the Gorge cruises and tours. They provide commentary on the region, sharing their knowledge of the local flora and fauna. Guides also tell ancient creation stories about Jawoyn life, enabling visitors to embrace a journey of learning and discovery in this spiritual and spectacular part of NT’s Top End.

Accommodation

Lodge Rooms
All 18 rooms of the lodge are air conditioned and feature full length louvered doors to the private balconies, allowing guests the choice of opening their room to the sounds and sights of the native bush or closing them for the cool privacy of their room sanctuary.

Each room has views out across the distinct sandstone country above the gorge – lush gullies full of flora inhabiting giant cracks in the gorge walls, and broad valleys meandering through both the high and low country.

Each room features Indigenous artwork from local artists – the rich colours blending with and complimenting the more modern design and fittings.

The ancient stories within the paintings weave the modern with the traditional to create a unique blend that is Cicada Lodge.
