Queensland
Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef
Queensland
Located in the north east corner of Australia, the state of Queensland is home to the Great Barrier Reef and many famous tropical rainforests, including the World Heritage listed Daintree. It’s capital city is Brisbane, which is also one of Australia’s international gateways, and is near to the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, but Cairns is the city that most international tourists will visit as it’s the principle jumping off point for the Great Barrier Reef AND the Daintree Rainforest as well as the Atherton Tablelands.
Queensland is in the tropics so has a warm climate year round with summer’s typically being more humid with a risk of a cyclone (hurricane). Best time to visit is spring (September to November) and fall (April to June). Note that dangerous jellyfish called “stingers” are often present from November through April necessitating the use of a “stinger suit” when swimming or snorkeling.
