ATHERTON TABLELANDS

About a one half mile in elevation above the Great Barrier Reef, the Atherton Tablelands are beautiful and unspoiled. A great way to see the region is with a self driving tour.

The tablelands are home to ancient rainforests, volcanic lakes, waterfall circuits, and the Mareeba Wetlands. Here is where you will find the beautiful Curtain Fig Tree as well as World Heritage Wooroonooran National Park. In addition, Gadgarra and Crater Lakes National Parks are located here. The area also offers a diversity and abundance of flora and fauna. Some wildlife you can expect to see include tree kangaroos, platypus, rock wallabies, kangaroos, bandicoots, and lots of different bird species.

Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat is located next to the World Heritage listed Wooroonooran National Park. Situated on 230 acres of private tropical forests, you will enjoy an unforgettable bush experience. Miles of walking trails which vary from easy to average take you to a rainforest creek, a beautiful waterfall and many giant trees.
