Great Barrier Reef islands
The largest coral reef system in the world, stretching 1430 miles, the Great Barrier Reef is home to an abundance of marine life. It contains over 2900 individual coral reefs, over 900 islands, and some of the best beaches in the world. There are many islands that offer accommodation of which six are detailed below where you can enjoy many experiences such as snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, hiking, bird watching, kayaking, SUP’s, sailing, fixed wing, sea plane or helicopter flight see tours, glass-bottomed boat tours, as well as 1-4 night overnight sailing or expedition style cruise ships.
And please do not believe all the negative press about the Great Barrier Reef being dead. Most of the reef is in pristine condition and serious efforts are underway to address those areas that have been damaged.
