CRADLE MOUNTAIN
Visiting Cradle Mountain can be one of the most amazing experiences to be enjoyed in Australia. Part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, the region is located at the northern end of the Lake St Clair National Park. A mixture of ancient rainforest, alpine heathlands, grasses and colorful deciduous beech offer a wide range of habitat to explore. Rugged mountains with beautiful streams, ancient pines mirrored in glacial lakes and an abundance of wildlife will captivate you. The site is surely a must see for all nature lovers; there is simply so much to see, do and enjoy – it is an experience to remember.
Spend a night here or enjoy several nights exploring one of Australia’s great walks: the famous Overland Track. There are a variety of short day hikes, full day hikes or multi-day hikes to explore this amazingly beautiful piece of Tasmania.
Cradle Valley and the surrounding areas also contain many Aboriginal historic sites. These sites contain remnant stone tools, caves, rock shelters and stone sources. You can explore the historic sites on the Aboriginal Cultural Walk that departs from Lake St Clair at the southern end of the park.
