Cradle Mountain Canyons
Cradle Mountain Canyons
Launch yourself off waterfalls, abseil down cliffs and shoot through nature’s waterslides. Canyoning is the most exciting way to experience the World Heritage wilderness at Cradle Mountain.
No experience is necessary and Cradle Mountain Canyons will give you everything you need – just bring swimsuit, towel and a drink bottle.
Experienced and qualified guides will lead you through the gorgeous canyons found close to Cradle Mountain.
Tours
Dove Canyon
The most popular tour. Six waterfalls to navigate in a deep canyon surrounded by beautiful rain forest.
After abseiling in, you will spend the day walking and floating through the canyon and doing what you have to do to navigate the obstacles you’ll find along the way. The main obstacles are six waterfalls which you abseil, jump or slide off!
You need to commit to the trip once you’re in because there’s only one way out and there is no way to walk around any of the waterfalls. However, you don’t have to have canyoning experience, and it doesn’t require any particular skills except an ability to swim and a sense of adventure.
You do need a descent level of fitness. The hardest part of the day physically is the hike out of the canyon. It is 20 minutes, up a steep hill, in a wetsuit, to get back to where your dry clothes are waiting for you.
Lost World Canyon
This tour is a fun introduction to the world of canyoning – it’s is all about getting up close and personal with a unique part of the World Heritage Area and gaining an introduction to the world of canyoning. After a 20 minute walk to the river, you put on your wetsuit and the guides give you a safety talk. You then enter the Dove River and float and walk through this pristine wilderness.
There are jumps and other challenges, making for a super fun morning or afternoon. All the challenges are optional on this tour though, so it is less committing than the full day experiences.
You will be given all the gear you need for this tour. Minimum age is eight and being able to swim is not essential..
Machinery Canyon
This is a big day out and a fantastic option for groups who have done the Dove Canyon previously. It is quite a different tour to the Dove Canyon – the canyon is bigger and so are the waterfalls, which means there is a lot more abseiling.
Meet at the Cradle Mountain office, and you will get you kitted out and then be driven about half an hour in a bus to the site. A short walk brings you to the canyon. After you abseil the first 65 foot waterfall, there will be one waterfall after another until you reach the last, and biggest, waterfall – Petrifying Falls.
These tours may not have daily departures, but sometimes they relocate Dove Canyon tours to Machinery Canyon if the flow of the Dove River is too high.
