MELBOURNE
Melbourne is Australia’s most cosmopolitan city, and most interesting. It’s been voted several times now the World’s most Liveable city. It has a fabulous shopping and foodie culture, amazing architecture, free public trams, world class museums, art, theater, you can explore enchanting laneways with boutiques and eateries as well as vibrant rooftop bars and restaurants.
For sports fans, there are sporting venues such as the Rod Laver Arena and the Melbourne Cricket Grounds (MCG), and international events such Formula 1 Grand Prix and especially the Australian Open tennis championship. Melbourne is also the home of Aussie Rules Football with 9 of Australia’s 18 teams.
It’s also a great base for wildlife tourism. Victoria is home to most of Australia’s most iconic wildlife including kangaroos, emus, wallabies, koalas, echidnas, penguins, loads of parrots and reptiles; and all of it is within a 90 minute drive of downtown.
Add day trips for wine tasting and hot air ballooning in the Yarra Valley or little blue penguins on Phillip Island as must do’s as well. The city is also the starting point for the Great Ocean Road.
