Blue Lagoon Cruises
About Blue Lagoon
Blue Lagoon Cruises offer amazing cruise experiences in Fiji’s Islands. With more than 60 years experience cruising the Yasawa Islands, they’ve figured out the winning formula for taking guests to the most beautiful places in Fiji, showcasing the most rewarding activities and giving guests the best possible experience in the untouched South Pacific!
Blue Lagoon Cruises visit the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands, which are located north-west of Viti Levu, or ‘mainland’ Fiji. The picturesque Mamanuca Islands are dotted throughout the sparkling sea and are generally tiny in size, but striking in beauty. Their majestic neighbors, the Yasawas, lie just a little further north. These islands form what is arguably some of the world’s most spectacular and dramatic island landscapes.
The warm, turquoise lagoons that surround the islands are busy with vibrant coral and fish life and lush coconut trees line the white sandy beaches. The people of Fiji are often said to be the friendliest in the world, with their generous smiles, laid-back nature and cheerful demeanor.
Our Boutique Cruise Ship
Small enough to tie off to a coconut tree…
The small size of the boutique cruise ship, Fiji Princess is just one of the things that makes a cruise with Blue Lagoon Cruises so special. Accommodating up to 68 passengers and measuring only 179 feet in length, the ship can access bays and islands that would be impossible to reach in a large ship. The ship can get so close to shore, that it can be tied off to a coconut tree and you can swim to the beach! Here are some reasons your will love small ship cruising:
- Small ship cruising allows Fiji Princess to tie up to coconut trees during the day so that the lagoons and coves that would be inaccessible to a large vessel can be explored.
- With a maximum of 68 guests on Fiji Princess, no matter which beach or island is visited, you won’t be overwhelmed by crowds. Most of the time, passengers are the only people on the beach!
- Because of the smaller passenger numbers, Blue Lagoon prides itself on personal and friendly Fijian service. They usually operate on a two to one passenger to staff ratio and everyone is referred to on a first-name basis.
- Small ship cruising offers a very relaxed atmosphere and environment. Because of this, you’ll adapt with the greatest of ease to ‘Fiji Time’.
- You only need to unpack once but you’ll visit numerous islands.
- The cruises are very casual and informal. There is no need to bring several outfits to wear for evening functions.
- Passengers often make friends for life, given the social atmosphere of small ship cruising.
- If conditions are rough due to winds and swells, it’s easy for staff to alter the itinerary to cruise on the sheltered side of the islands.

Cultural Experiences
The experience is authentic. You will see the real Fiji, not a ‘staged’ show.
The Yasawa Islands are home to 27 remote villages. The villagers live a traditional way of life, and welcome Blue Lagoon passengers into their community to introduce you to their captivating and colorful culture. Yasawan villagers still practice traditional culture, dancing, singing and ceremonies.
This heart-warming experience offers a great insight into the lives of the Yasawa people and includes a brief overview of the history of the village, followed by a traditional ‘Yaqona Ceremony’. After the ceremony is Kava tasting as well as a ‘Meke'(dancing and singing performance from the villagers). Blue Lagoon passengers are invited to partake in the ‘Fiji Shuffle’ or the ‘One step forward two steps back’. It always ends in lots of laughs! You’ll also have the chance to purchase exotic souvenirs from the village shell market.
Lending a hand
Many of the passengers fall in love with the friendly nature of Fijians and are especially taken with the wide-eyed curiosity of the children. The villagers do not expect gifts from passengers, but many of passengers ask what items they can bring to give away to village children. School supplies (pens, pencils, crayons, drawing/colouring books, notepads and the like) are always most welcome as are sports items such as rugby and soccer balls. Items of clothing are also well received. School books are not suggested as the importation of educational material is subject to Ministry of Education approval.
Staff works closely with the local villages, helping to support them with the visits, and also through the Vinaka Fiji Trust, an initiative dedicated to improving the provision of basic needs lacking from village life in the Yasawas. Vinaka Fiji runs a fantastic range of volunteering programs in the Yasawa Islands. These programs can be added on to your cruise, pre or post.
