Mamanucas Islands
The Mamanucas are a group of islands to the west of Nadi (the town where the international airport is located) and to the south of the Yasawa Islands. As a result of being remnants of a volcanic archipelago, about 7 of the 20 islands are submerged at high tide. Known for their palm fringed beaches, crystal clear waters, brilliant coral reefs and easy proximity to the mainland, the Mamanuca Islands make a great Fiji destination for vacations and honeymoons. In addition, getting to the islands is a fun adventure in itself; they are all close enough that you can get to them by scheduled ferry. And it’s such a pretty ride, which makes it a great way to start your Fijian holiday. Once there, you can enjoy visiting villages and resorts, snorkeling, diving, swimming, being pampered in a spa or relaxing by incredible pools or on beautiful beaches.
Interesting note: the filming location of the movie “Castaway” was on the Mamanucas island of Monuriki.
