NORTHERN ISLANDS

To the north of the main island of Viti Levu are the next two largest islands within the Fijian archepelago, Vanua Levu and Taveuni.  These are lush, tropical rainforest islands and are more remote and the Fijian culture is more intact here. This area has the best scuba diving in Fiji and is often considered to have the best soft coral diving in the world: dive sites such as Eel Reef and the Great White Wall, an amazing drop-off covered in white soft coral are located here.

Besides having great snorkeling, diving, and water activities, Taveuni and her nearby islands offer a host of other activities including hiking, horseback riding, village visits, a Catholic Mission at Wairiki and nature preserves.

Although the accommodations on these islands are luxury resorts, they generally are not considered ‘beach’ resorts as they are more tidal (although Qamea has a pretty nice beach) and stays are often combined with one of the hotels in the Mamanuca Islands for longer stays in Fiji.
