Qamea Resort and Spa

Qamea Resort & Spa is an intimate boutique resort catering to maximum of 34 adults, with only 17 luxuriously appointed and air conditioned bures nestled among swaying coconut palms and verdant tropical gardens.

Set amidst 100 acres or lush tropical landcaped gardens, bushland, and jagged volcanic South Pacific mountains that soar behind the property, the entire resort fronts onto a private white sand beach over a kilometre in length, and is known as the most spectacular in Fiji’s northern island group.

With the only Guinot spa in the South Pacific, a PADI 5 Star accredited dive shop, snorkeling just off the resort and daily activities ranging from catered picnic lunches at cascading jungle waterfalls to invigorating coastal and mountain hikes – you will certainly not need to look far for something exciting and adventurous to do.

If privacy is what is sought, our romantically decorated bures and beach houses, all with outdoor showers, and many with private swimming pools or jacuzzi spa will meet your requirements.

Culture

Fiji culture is steeped in tradition and values and is a place of family and religion. In order to share the beautiful culture with you, Qamea Resort & Spa offers a number of activities centered around the local Fijian way of life, including a traditional kava ceremony, meke and visits to local villages.

Kava Ceremony

Throughout the evenings you will be invited to share with the band and guests in traditional kava drinking. For the weekly formal kava ceremony you are invited to watch and assist in the traditional method of pounding kava root into the fine powder by local warriors. The ceremony has been handed down from generation to generation, and is a means to show respect and to welcome people into your home and heart.

Meke

The local villagers regularly visit Qamea for a special treat — Meke. This traditional Fijian ceremony is a mix of food, dance, entertainment and song. Meke is the traditional way of passing history and legends from one generation to another through song and dance. Typical meke songs and dance depict the journey of the Fijian ancestors across the ocean in search of a homeland, as well as significant battles, joys and tears.

Village Visits

For an insider look at traditional Fijian village life, take a tour of one of the local villages on Qamea Island. Prior to departure, guests will be informed of the cultural protocol when entering a village, and as part of the tour will look around the village and mix and mingle with the locals.

Sunday Church Service

High on the hill overlooking the water is the Vatusogosogo Village Church. All guests are welcome to attend the church service on Sunday. The service is held in Fijian, the majority of which is beautiful choir and congregation singing.

Surfing

Qamea Resort & Spa have partnered with luxury surf pioneers, Tropicsurf, to bring undiscovered, un-crowded and untapped surf breaks in North Fiji to the forefront of Luxury surf trip enthusiasts’ minds. Between November and April, you can now have the option to surf the secluded and untapped breaks of North Fiji while staying at Qamea Resort & Spa.  Please note, we do not offer surfing outside of this timeframe as the trade winds shift and the waves are then usually not suitable for surfing.

Whether you are just a beginner starting out for the first time or a more experienced surfer staff can offer a surf program that is catered specifically to your own needs. The resident Tropic Surf guides are available to ensure your surfing experience is the best it can be.

A range of boards available to suit your requirements from OZO shortboards to a complete range of firewire short and longboards for you to choose from. At the surf shack you have access to wetsuits, booties, wax, rash guards, towels and expert guiding.

A fifteen minute boat ride from the resort will find you on the outer reefs that receive any swell from the South. The right hander, named Maqai, is the most consistent wave in this set of reef passes. This wave offers three sections. Experienced surfers can work their way up the reef and find a hollow barrel before working a rippable face and mellower barrel section through to the mid part of the wave. The end section is fun for intermediate surfers.
