Beaufort House Akaroa
Beaufort House is a beautiful historic home and garden, now lovingly restored with Old World charm and modern conveniences offering quality accommodation – five exquisitely decorated bedrooms, each with their own character, and ensuites or private bathrooms.
Beaufort House is secluded and private, but just a short stroll to the village and harbor. You can relax on the verandahs or wander around the gracious traditional garden containing protected trees, rare camellias, roses and a small private vineyard.
Breakfast is served in the dining room, on the veranda or on the terrace outdoor table with magnificent views of Akaroa. Much of the produce used is home grown in the kitchen garden and an abundance of fresh local produce is used. Your hosts enjoy setting the table from their collection of items from a bygone era, utilising silverware and glassware, and beautiful Portmerion china, in the Pomana design.
Daily breakfasts consist of the following:
- A choice of fresh juices
- Selection of cereals including Sharon’s home toasted muesli
- Bircher Muesli
- Platter of seasonal fresh fruit, natural yogurt
- A variety of cooked dishes which change regularly with seasonal choices (includes Noel’s Country Breakfast)

Beaufort Room
The latest addition to Beaufort House, the Beaufort Room is situated on the ground floor furnished with an antique French Queen size bed. The room is enhanced with a chandelier – overhead bed lighting for night time reading with an authentic tassle pull cord. A modern spacious ensuite with shower and under floor heating compliments the room. In addition, there is a walk in robe/storage area with tea making facilities.

Shepherd Room
The Shepherd Room was named after the second owner of Wilderness House – Constable and Mrs Shepherd. This charming room gets the first of the morning sun all year round. It has a Queen size bed with traditional black iron bed ends. The room has its own private balcony, perfect for an early morning cup of tea or an afternoon or evening glass of wine. On a hot summers night what could be more perfect than to sleep with the door open and enjoy the melodious birdsong which is abundant in the garden. The room has an ensuite bathroom with a walk in shower.

Nalder Room
This lovely corner room was named after George Nalder, the English Solicitor who built Wilderness House in Akaroa in 1878. As he was a keen botanist and ornithologist, this room has been given a botanical flavor with the bedroom drapes. You can lie in bed and admire the giant bunya bunya (monkey puzzle) tree, magnolia grandiflora and cornus flowering right outside the window and planted by George Nalder 135years ago. This room gets all year round morning and afternoon sun. It has a beautiful Italian Rosewood Queen size bed with inlaid marquetry on the headboard and ensuite bathroom with walk in shower.

Walker Room
The Walker room is named after the Walker family who completed the major renovations in the late 1990’s and put much care and love into the property. Decorated in a blue and white theme it enjoys lovely afternoon sun with valley and bay views. Currently this room can be configured as a king or twin bedroom. It has a private spacious bathroom with under floor heating, soft white bathrobes provided, just a few steps across the hall opposite the bedroom. This is the largest bathroom with views over the vineyard. The bath has recently been upgraded to a double end Chateau Bath, with new overhead shower, side bath taps and shower attachment. Honeymoon couples will love this wonderful relaxing bathroom …… maybe with a glass of bubbles or two!

Fyffe Room
This charming corner room has lovely sea views down into Children’s Bay and the surrounding valley. The room was named after the Fyfe sisters who ran Wilderness House in Akaroa as a boarding establishment in the mid 19th Century. Enjoy fabulous afternoon sun, ideal for a snooze before joining your hosts for a glass of wine and strolling down to the village for a memorable meal. The room has an antique French upholstered Queen bed and a large ensuite bathroom with bath and overhead shower.
