Taupo

The largest lake in New Zealand, Lake Taupo was created nearly two thousand years ago by a huge volcanic eruption. Today, at some of its beaches, you can enjoy warm, geothermal water currents. Some of its natural attractions include geothermal hot pools, waterfalls, forests and volcanoes. Just north of the lake you’ll find the magnificent Huka Falls, where more than 58,000 gallons of water thunder over the cliff face every second.

Taupo makes a great New Zealand vacation destination; it is known for its adrenaline activities like bungy jumping, and motorized water sports, but equally for its fishing, boating, and hiking.  And most activities can be enjoyed right near the Taupo town center. If you are looking for outdoor adventure, the local mountains offer mountain biking, skiing in winter, alpine climbing, hiking, and rock climbing. On the lake you can try kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, fishing, boating, sailing, motorized water sports and much more. The Maori rock carvings at Mine Bay, which can only be seen from the water, make for a great boat trip or kayaking excursion.

The town of Taupo has developed into a resort town offering the perfect balance of excitement and relaxation. Plenty of top-notch cafes and restaurants, boutique shopping, and a thriving nightlife can be enjoyed here.
