DUNEDIN REGION

This region of New Zealand includes the city of Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula. The area offers dramatic scenery, lush rainforests, fertile farmlands and sweeping coastlines. Cycling, hiking, wildlife viewing, historic buildings, museums, and beautiful beaches all make this a region a wonderful place to visit.

Dunedin is a college town and the most Scottish city in New Zealand. The city has a quirky vibe and interesting cultural history. It is a great place to see all sorts of wildlife up close including penguins, albatrosses, and fur seals. And don’t miss the Speight’s Brewery Tour.

The Otago Peninsula sits on the southern edge of Dunedin’s harbor. It is high and rugged on the ocean side and warm and sheltered on the harbor side. The peninsula is part of the crater wall of a large extinct volcano. Take a day trip from the city to see the spectacular scenery and wildlife or stay at historic Larnach Castle.
