The Peppertree
The Peppertree
This gracious 5-Star rated Edwardian Villa, built in 1901, is surrounded by 10 acres of farmland, vineyard, olive grove and gardens, nestled quietly amid the world famous Marlborough wine region. It is the ideal base from which to tour the region or a treasured retreat where time stands still. Let your hosts, Heidi and Werner Pluss guide you through the five spacious suites each individually decorated and complete with fireplace, verandah or balcony. Your day starts with a delicious breakfast in the elegant dining room (or verandah). Stroll through the native trees, hear the birdsong, enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool, a game of petanque or croquet. Of course be sure to sample The Peppertree Chardonnay grown in the boutique vineyard just yards from the homestead and made by owner Werner – enjoy it on the wisteria clad verandah as the sun sets.
All of the suites have direct dial ISDN telephone, a color TV, fridge and mini-bar. Coffee and tea, home-baked cookies and fresh fruit, electric blankets, a nice selection of toiletries, a hairdryer and a high quality bathrobe are also provided. There are twin or king size bed options and attractive New Zealand prints adorn the walls. The suite includes an ensuite bathroom with shower and non-slip tiles.
Sunset Suite
Aptly named for its aspect that allows you to enjoy the sun setting in the west, this pretty room has french doors leading to a private garden. Here, the songs of bellbirds, fantails and other New Zealand native birds greet you in the morning. Climbing roses, pretty hedges, shrubs and blossom trees surround this sanctuary where you may choose to take breakfast alfresco. The garden allows private access to your suite. An attractive ensuite adjoins the Sunset room, providing a shower and special non slip tiles under foot.
Venetian Suite
Newly created in keeping with the Edwardian style, tastefully furnished and mirroring the charm of Venice. This spacious room is most comfortable and has access to a verandah and garden where ferns, bamboo and native shrubs provide a wonderful backtrop to the delightful water feature. It’s the perfect spot to unwind at the end of an active day and it also offers an alternative entrance. This suite has full wheelchair access and facilities for the disabled with twin or king size bed options. The attractive ensuite bathroom with shower is on the same level and is generously proportioned.
Dormer Suite
Nestled under the dormer roof, up a short flight of stairs, is a charmingly romantic suite of rooms ideal for a honeymoon couple seeking quietness, privacy and seclusion. The highlight of the room is the magnificent white queen size bed, prettily draped in white muslin and bedecked with cushions and pillows. A balcony overlooks the courtyard and attractive garden with a view over the trees to the majestic mountains in the distance. The large adjoining ensuite is light and spacious with tiled walls, and incorporates a spa/bath, shower and a delightful little picture window depicting The Peppertree design, after which the villa was named.
William Morris Suite
The charm of yesteryear is evoked in this large, gracious room with king size bed and antique furniture. A grand kauri fireplace commands attention as does the genuine ‘turn of the century’ light fitting, original wallpaper and matching frieze. The room is spacious and airy, attracting all day sun through large windows and double doors. The doors open out on to a verandah and garden, and offer an alternative entrance. The ensuite bathroom is fitted with a shower and free standing bath opposite a magnificent wooden fireplace with antique tile surrounds. It is tastefully furnished in keeping with the theme of the homestead.
