Nelson
Located at the top north-west of the South Island, Nelson is the sunniest region in New Zealand. It has a varied outdoor environment and Nelson is blessed with three national parks within close range. Abel Tasman National Park offers visitors a clear sheltered coastline with crystal clear waters. Tonga Island Marine Reserve and the Abel Tasman Coast Track are also in the region. These parks and the rugged coastal beauty of the area allows for plenty of hiking, kayaking, cruising and biking.
The city also has many other options including great shopping, an abundance of seafood, local wine and beer and more than 300 working artists and galleries. The World of Wearable Art event originated in Nelson. The city offers a great range of eateries including high quality restaurants, cafes and bars in the inner city, along the waterfront and at Tahunanui Beach. In addition, the nearby Tasman District Wine Growing Region is home to many boutique wineries with inviting cellar doors and restaurants to sample award winning wines.
