Matauri Bay

Matauri Bay has beautiful golden sandy beaches and ridges above the bay with panoramic views over the headland and out to the Cavalli Islands. The final resting-place of the ill-fated Greenpeace flagship, the Rainbow Warrior, is located here. Now home to reef fishes, it is known world-wide as an outstanding diving location. Matauri Bay is also popular for activities such as snorkeling, surfing, safe swimming, and jet skiing. With crystal-clear water and golden sands, the bay is also a popular surfing venue when the conditions are right.

The luxury resort, Kauri Cliffs golf resort, with its spectacular views of the ocean and bay is also located here. Stay and be pampered or enjoy a round of gold at this world class resort. If you are interested in additional adventures, visit the nearby towns of Russell and Paihia for their wonderful selection of coastal activities and restaurants.
