Haast

The Haast region is so remarkable and remote that UNESCO designated it the Te Wāhipounamu World Heritage Area. With national parks to the north, south and east, the region is home to spectacular beaches, dunes, lakes, wetlands, and the soaring backdrop of the Southern Alps. Haast is an outdoor enthusiast’s playground. Not only is the scenery magnificent, but there are a variety of activities to be enjoyed; go on a river safari, visit fur seal and penguin colonies, go fishing, or take a scenic drive. There is also an abundance of wildlife in the area including a variety of native birds, fur seals, Hectors Dolphins and Fiordland Crested Penguins.
